Water Treatment Facility Upgrade
Replaced an outdated IFIX system and aging PLC controllers at a municipal water treatment facility with a modern Ignition Perspective platform.
The Challenge
A municipal water treatment facility needed to replace their outdated IFIX system and aging PLC controllers to ensure reliable operations and improved monitoring capabilities.
How We Solved It
- 01Migrated from legacy IFIX system to modern Ignition Perspective platform for enhanced HMI functionality, remote access capabilities, and mobile tablet support
- 02Upgraded the reporting infrastructure from the old Excel-based system to Ignition Reports for improved data analysis and regulatory compliance
- 03Replaced the outdated IFIX Historian with Ignition Historian for better data storage, retrieval, and trending capabilities
- 04Updated aging PLC controllers to Allen-Bradley 1756-L82E processors for improved processing power, memory capacity, and network connectivity
- 05Ensured seamless integration between all system components while maintaining operational continuity during the transition
The Result
The facility replaced a brittle, aging IFIX/Excel stack with a unified Ignition platform — giving operators mobile access from tablets, automated regulatory reports, and a modern historian with real-time trending. PLC upgrades eliminated reliability concerns and the cutover was completed without disrupting plant operations.
